Algés
Algés is a Portuguese town in the municipality of Oeiras. It became known during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s as a beach frequented by Lisboetas, with an extensive sandy area stretching from Algés to Cruz Quebrada. Currently, it is a dormitory town of Lisbon but with its own vibrant life, featuring a wide variety of local commerce, including restaurants, shops, tourist attractions, and monuments. Facing Algés, along the river, there is a pedestrian avenue with several gardens. Worth highlighting is Avenida dos Combatentes, an avenue with much activity due to its commerce, with many small shops, restaurants, hairdressers, kiosks, banks, sports institutions, apartment buildings, and the Mercado de Algés. This is a very old market that has been revitalized and is now the commercial, cultural, and gastronomic center of the parish of Algés.
Algés is a town known for the Passeio Marítimo de Algés, a venue where various events are held, notably "NOS Alive" and "Queima das Fitas." Algés is also recognized for Clube Sport Algés e Dafundo, a national reference in swimming and water polo, and for Clube Náutico de Algés, with a competitive sailing club and capacity for 300 boats. Algés is a riverside area ideal for living, strolling, relaxing, and conducting business safely and peacefully.
