Cascais is a coastal town at the western end of the Lisbon coast, at the end of the railway line from Lisbon. The historic centre, the museums and the marina are close together around the bay, and the coast road continues west to Boca do Inferno and Guincho.

Getting to Cascais
- By train: trains on the Cascais line leave from Cais do Sodré station in Lisbon and end at Cascais station, in the town centre. The line stops at Carcavelos, Parede and the Estoril stations on the way.
- By road: the A5 motorway and the coast road, Avenida Marginal, connect Cascais with Lisbon.
- By air: the Cascais Aerodrome in Tires serves private and training flights.
Getting around Cascais
- On foot: the station, the historic centre, the bay, the Citadel and the museum quarter are within walking distance of each other.
- Seafront promenade: a promenade runs along the coast from Cascais to the beaches of Estoril.
- By bus: buses leave from the terminal near Cascais station for Guincho and for Sintra.
Museums in Cascais
The Bairro dos Museus groups the museums of the centre of Cascais, a short walk apart.
- Casa das Histórias Paula Rego: the museum of the painter Paula Rego, opened in 2009.
- Condes de Castro Guimarães Museum: a museum and library in a summer house of 1897 to 1900 on the Santa Marta cove.
- Santa Marta Lighthouse Museum: the first lighthouse museum in Portugal, in a working lighthouse lit in 1868.
