Porto de Sines

Porto de Sines lies on the Alentejo coast and is the largest artificial port in Portugal. Two breakwaters shelter it, the west one running about 2,000 metres and the east one about 2,200 metres, and the natural depths reach 28 metres below chart datum. It opened in 1978 and holds specialised terminals for containers, liquid bulk, natural gas and coal, with a separate fishing harbour in an inner basin. The port operates every day of the year, around the clock.
