Portugal dos Pequenitos

Portugal dos Pequenitos is a park of buildings at child scale on the left bank of the Mondego in Coimbra, opened in 1940 on the initiative of the doctor and professor Bissaya Barreto. It shows small models of traditional Portuguese houses, of national monuments and of buildings from the countries where Portugal had a presence.

The park is run by the Fundação Bissaya Barreto.

What to see at Portugal dos Pequenitos

Regional houses: small models of the traditional houses of the regions of Portugal, such as the Minho and the Alentejo.
Monuments: small models of Portuguese monuments, among them buildings of Coimbra and Lisbon.
Overseas area: pavilions of the countries and territories linked to Portugal, such as Brazil, the African Portuguese-speaking countries, India, Macau and Timor.

History of Portugal dos Pequenitos

1940: the park opens, created by Bissaya Barreto as an educational park for children.

Visiting Portugal dos Pequenitos

Location: the park is on the left bank of the Mondego, near Santa Clara-a-Velha Monastery.
Families: the buildings are sized for children, and a visit takes about half a day.
