Universidade de Coimbra

Universidade de Coimbra is the oldest university in Portugal and one of the oldest in continuous operation in Europe. Its royal charter, Scientiae thesaurus mirabilis, is dated 1 March 1290. The institution was founded in Lisbon and moved between the two cities several times before settling permanently in Coimbra in 1537. Its historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
