Bolhão Market is the central fresh-food market of Porto, in a Beaux-Arts building designed by the architect António Correia da Silva and built from 1914 to 1917. After four years of restoration by the architect Nuno Valentim, the market reopened on 15 September 2022.
The building has been classified as a Monument of Public Interest since 2013.
What to see at Bolhão Market

History of Bolhão Market
- 1837: the market begins as an open square.
- 1914 to 1917: António Correia da Silva enlarges it into the present building.
- 1940s: an intermediate floor is added between the entrances on Rua Alexandre Braga and Rua Sá da Bandeira.
- 2013: the market is classified as a Monument of Public Interest.
- May 2018: the market closes for restoration.
- 15 September 2022: the market reopens, with a basement for deliveries and direct access to the metro.
